Included in e-book and hard copy anthology, The Cricket and Other Stories. This story is Chapter Three in my upcoming book: MUSICAL MORPHINE.
I unpacked and tuned the Goya guitar, my precious companion now for over forty-five years, pinned on my Certified Music Practitioner badge, then headed down the hallway at Mountain Valley Hospice House located in rural Upstate, New York.
My Martin and Yamaha guitars remained back home since the Goya’s sweet tones complimented the hushed, even holy atmosphere of the House. The glinty, outspoken sound of steel strings was too big for frail, often overwhelmed patients in small rooms.
I noticed Len’s door was still closed as it had been every time I came to the House to offer music.
“What’s going on with Len?” I asked Kathleen, the head nurse.
